Championship Saturday Picks

Filly and Mare Sprint

6-BELLA SOPHIA is a clean break/length defeat away from being undefeated in all five starts. Best effort came in Test at Saratoga going this distance.

4-CE CE has concentrated on sprints for the most part this year and has won three of four starts around one turn. Was no match for Gamine in Ballerina.

5-GAMINE had as easy a time of it as a filly can get when she controlled a pedestrian pace in the Ballerina last out. Let’s see how she handles the presence of Bella Sophia.

3-EDGEWAY has won five of her eight career starts, including last out in her lone try over the course.

Turf Sprint

4-LIEUTENANT DAN has won all three starts since returning from a year-plus layoff, including two at Del Mar going this distance.

10-GEAR JOCKEY sat just off the pace to win the Turf Sprint at Kentucky Downs last out. Distance may be a tad short, but he’s run well since turning back to sprints.

12-EXTRAVAGANT KID looked like he needed his first start in three months when he returned to the states from a globetrotting spring and summer last out. Reunites with Ryan Moore who was aboard for his win in Dubai

11-FAST BOAT closed nicely to take the Troy at Saratoga before finding some traffic at Kentucky Downs in his latest.

Dirt Mile

5-LIFE IS GOOD returns to two turns off a runner-up finish to Jackie’s Warrior two back and an easy score in the Kelso at Belmont. Widely considered to be the proverbial “free bingo square” on the Saturday card.

1-SILVER STATE idled after making lead at Parx going two turn mile most recently. Met Mile winner has shown up in each of his six starts this season.

7-SNAPPER SINCLAIR returns to dirt for first time since Dubai trip in March. Dual surface millionaire has three wins on dirt, all at this distance.

3-GINOBILI has won three of four at Del Mar, including last pair with the addition of blinkers.

Filly and Mare Turf

7-WAR LIKE GODDESS has won her last four, including the G2 Glens Falls and G1 Flower Bowl at Saratoga seemingly effortlessly. Has improved with each start of her career.

6-LOVE makes her first start in U.S. while winless in her last three starts for O’Brien, who has never trained a winner of this event.

4-ROUGIR got up in final strides of Prix de l’Opera after finishing on the wrong end of three consecutive photo finishes.

2-POCKET SQUARE won last two against lesser company. Stretches out for this.

Sprint

2-JACKIE’S WARRIOR toyed with fellow sophomores in the Gallant Bob at Parx, just his second try at this distance. The speed of the speed.

5-ALOHA WEST stormed home to miss by just a neck in the Phoenix, his graded stakes debut last out. Should offer some value behind the chalk.

8-SPECIAL RESERVE sat a perfect trip to win Phoenix, his fourth consecutive start with a triple Digit Beyer Speed Figure.

6-FIRENZE FIRE lost all chance in Vosburgh when breaking through gate prior to start. This is his fifth trip to the B.C. as he looks to improve on last year’s third-place finish in this.

Mile

10-BLOWOUT won her first G1 in the First Lady at Keeneland last out with some give in the ground. Should love hearing her feet rattle on that firm Del Mar turf. She’ll be in front early.

6-MO FOTZA has won four consecutive G2 races in SoCal, all at this distance. He’s won six of eight overall at a mile and half of his six tries locally.

3-SPACE BLUES closed from the back of the pack to take a G2 and the G1 Prix de la Foret on the Arc undercard. He’s making his first start beyond seven furlongs in over 30 months.

7-IN LOVE finished strong to capture G1 Keeneland Turf Mile, his third consecutive win..

Distaff

6-LETRUSKA has won at six different tracks, including four G1s, in what some are saying is a Horse of the Year campaign. Others feel she is over-the-top.

11-DUNBAR ROAD was getting to Letruska late in the Spinster. Third in this last year, she could use some help on the front end.

2-ROYAL FLAG has really come into her own this year. Never off the board in 12 starts, she could be peaking at the right time.

3-MALATHAAT tackles older for first time having won the most important races in her division. She needs to get faster but who’s to say she can’t or won’t?

Turf

13-TARNAWA finished second to big-priced winner in Arc last out, just her third start since upsetting this event last season.

11-GUFO tired to third after making lead on far turn of Joe Hirsch. Won two prior, including Sword dancer, with addition of blinkers.

10-YIBIR takes on elders after toying with field in Jockey Club Derby at Belmont, his stateside debut..

5-TRIBHUVAN has turned his career around since being handled more aggressively early on.

Classic

5-KNICKS GO will look to stay perfect around two turns since being moved to Cox barn. He is the speed of the speed and course should help him get the added furlong. If he needs help.

4-ESSENTIAL QUALITY gives Cox a powerful Classic duo. He’s a length from being undefeated in nine starts and figures to be running late.

3-HOT ROD CHARLIE will be forced to sit off Knicks as he simply isn’t fast enough early. Lots of buzz about him as they are going to his backyard this time around.

6-ART COLLECTOR has improved in all three starts since transferring to Mott barn this summer. Biggest win came on the lead but he’s won rating in past.
